Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) is the independent inspectorate and regulator of healthcare in Wales. HIW carries out inspections of NHS and independent healthcare settings to check that people receive good quality care. Their role is to provide independent assurance for patients, the public, and the Welsh Government about the quality and safety of healthcare services.
Vale Eye Surgeons was inspected by HIW in February 2024 as part of their programme of independent healthcare regulation. As a registered independent clinic, we are subject to regular inspection to ensure we meet the required standards of care, safety, and governance.
We are proud to operate under the oversight of HIW and welcome their inspections as an important part of maintaining the highest standards of patient care.
Both of our consultant surgeons - Ms Magdalena Popiela and Mr Thomas Betts - hold senior NHS positions at University Hospital of Wales, bringing the same rigorous standards of clinical governance to our private practice.
