Expert assessment with a consultant ophthalmologist
Every patient journey at Vale Eye Surgeons begins with a thorough consultation with one of our consultant ophthalmologists. Unlike many private clinics where you may be seen by an optometrist or junior doctor, at Vale Eye Surgeons you will always be assessed by a fully qualified consultant surgeon.
Your consultant will take a detailed history of your symptoms, perform a comprehensive eye examination using specialist equipment, and discuss their findings with you clearly and honestly.
Your consultation includes a full ophthalmic assessment tailored to your presenting concerns. This may include visual acuity testing, slit lamp examination, intraocular pressure measurement, dilated fundus examination, OCT imaging, corneal topography, or other diagnostic tests as clinically indicated.
All necessary diagnostic investigations are included in the consultation fee - there are no hidden charges for standard imaging or tests performed during your appointment.
Please bring a list of your current medications, any relevant referral letters from your GP or optician, and your glasses or contact lenses. If you have had previous eye surgery, any old records or lens implant details are helpful.
Your appointment lasts approximately 30 minutes. Your consultant will examine your eyes, explain their findings, and discuss treatment options if applicable. You are encouraged to ask questions - we want you to leave fully informed.
You will receive a clear summary of the findings and any recommended next steps. If surgery is advised, your consultant will explain the procedure, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes. A letter will be sent to your GP or referring optician.
A new patient consultation is £200 and includes a full assessment. Follow-up appointments are £150 and are used to review progress, check post-operative healing, or monitor ongoing conditions.
