Ms Magdalena Popiela is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon specialising in cataract surgery, corneal disease, and anterior segment conditions. She graduated MBChB from the University of Edinburgh in 2007 and holds a Master's degree in Cataract and Refractive Surgery from Ulster University, alongside her Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. She is also a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS).
Magdalena completed her ophthalmology training in Wales before undertaking a subspecialty fellowship at Southampton University Hospital - one of the UK's leading corneal centres - where she gained advanced expertise in corneal transplantation and complex anterior segment surgery. She brings over 12 years of surgical experience with complication rates well below the national average for cataract surgery.
As the Cornea and Anterior Segment Clinical Lead at the University Hospital of Wales, Magdalena leads the specialist services in one of the largest eye departments in the region.
